Om Prakash PhD

Adjunct Associate Professor of MIP

Om Prakash, PhD, earned his doctorate in biochemistry from the National Chemical Laboratory in Poona, India in 1972.   After completing postdoctoral research in molecular biology at India’s National Chemical Laboratory in Poona, he became a senior staff associate, first the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and then at the Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research.  In 1986, after serving as instructor at Cornell University’s Graduate School of Medical Sciences, he joined the Ochsner Clinical Foundation as head of the Laboratory of Molecular Oncology and a member of the research staff in Hematology/Oncology. Also an adjunct professor within the LSUHSC Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology, he focuses his research on developing mouse models for understanding the molecular mechanisms of AIDS and associated malignancies and on the molecular biology and targeted treatments of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL).
