Bio

Dr. Mandal received his B. S. degree in Pharmacy and M.S. degree in Pharmaceutics from Jadavpur University, India. He completed his Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutics from Northeast Louisiana University. Prior to joining his Ph.D., he worked as a Formulation Scientist at Korbet (India) Pvt. Ltd. in the Solid and Liquid Products Division. He joined Xavier University of Louisiana as an Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics in 1991. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997 and full professor in 2001.

During the past several years, he has been involved with numerous formulation developments of pharmaceuticals. His research interests include controlled release technology and novel drug delivery. He has received significant funding from several federal agencies including the NIH/NIDA. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers and 35 National/International meeting abstracts. He is a member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists and the Controlled Release Society. He is a member of the Editorial Board for Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology and Pharmacy and Pharmacology Communications. He is a member of the Panel of Evaluators for Current Drugs Ltd., London, UK. where he published reviews on Investigational Drugs. He is a member of the Special study section of NIH. He is also a member of the United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP). He is a paper reviewer of Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Journal of Clinical Pharmacy and Therapeutics, Journal of Controlled Release, The Annals of Pharmacotherapy, International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding, Industrial Engineering & Chemistry Research, and Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy.

Research Interests

My research has focused on the development of solid pharmaceutical formulations including immediate and controlled release dosage forms. A major research goal is to understand what factors affect the performance of controlled release formulations. This research frequently involves the development of tablets, microcapsules, and other polymeric drug delivery systems.
