LCRC Now Accepting Applications For SUCRE - Summer Undergraduate Cancer Research Experience
College undergraduates interested in exploring a career in cancer research are urged to apply for the Louisiana Cancer Research Center's Summer Undergraduate Cancer Research Experience (SUCRE), which is now accepting applications until January 15th, 2026.
Selected SUCRE Fellows can explore and develop their research interests by working on an assigned project in a lab with a faculty mentor from LCRC institutions (LSU Health New Orleans, Tulane School of Medicine, or Xavier University of Louisiana). SUCRE Fellows present their work at the end of the program at a poster session.
The 8-week session runs from Monday, June 1, to Friday, July 24, 2026. Application and info here.
Preference is given to college juniors and seniors with at least one semester of remaining undergraduate coursework, who have completed advanced work relating to cancer or biomedical research and have a demonstrated interest in pursuing an advanced degree. A stipend is provided as part of the program, and housing is available.
“The LCRC Summer Undergraduate Cancer Research Experience provides a unique hands-on opportunity to complete a research project under the guidance of a faculty researcher from LSU, Tulane, or Xavier University," said Charles Wood, PhD, SUCRE program director, a member of the LCRC faculty and Cancer Crusader Professor in the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology, and an associate director of basic science at LSU LCMC Health in New Orleans. “SUCRE offers a glimpse of what it’s like to conduct postgraduate work—some SUCRE Fellows have even been included as co-authors in published research.”
SUCRE considers applications from college undergraduates in the United States and abroad. Those accepted may work in one of LCRC’s program areas: Cancer Biology, Genes & Environment, Translational Oncology, and Population Sciences.
