Ukrainian Cancer Researchers Visit LCRC

Dedicated cancer researchers and physicians in Ukraine are not letting up in their fight against cancer, even amid the ravages of war that surround them.   The experts have been visiting select cancer centers in the United States since the war began, to observe and learn about advances that are happening in this country every day, with a goal of returning home and implementing some of those protocols.

Four researchers will spend two days at the LCRC as part of a visit underwritten by Audubon Bioscience, a Houston private biobank that partnered with the nonprofit Peace and Development Foundation to build collaborations with the US cancer societies, medical centers, labs, pharma and biotech companies to advance cancer research and care in Ukraine.

The group, which includes pathologists and physician researchers,  is visiting New Orleans with a particular interest in molecular diagnostics/molecular pathology. They will spend time with researchers from LSU Health New Orleans, Tulane University School of Medicine and at the New Orleans Bioinnovation Center.

Earlier this month, the group attended the American Association of Cancer Research annual meeting in San Diego, visited Stanford University Medical Center, and will head to MD Anderson after leaving New Orleans.

The goal of the visit is to empower Ukrainian physicians with modern leadership and professional skills to help them sustain and develop critically important medical care during the war.
